My thoughts on the calendar Edit

It seems to me that dates can be referred to any of the following ways:

  • Day, Week, Month, Year
  • Day, Month-Week, Year
  • Month-Week-Day, Year

With conjunction, the Month's number is spelled fully, while the Month or Month-Day is abbreviated:

  1. Jes (es)
  2. Nan (an)
  3. Chach (ach)
  4. Vev (ev)
  5. Palah (ah)
  6. Shash (ash)
  7. Betab (ab)
  8. Kak (ak)
  9. Tanat (at)
  10. Ishi (ish)

Therefore the 2nd day of the 8th week of the 5th month would be Palahakan. This also leads me to believe that the date in the epigraph from Chapter 66 contains a typo. I believe Kaktach should be Kakatach, Month 8, Week 9, Day 3.

Come to think of it, I don't see a 9th week listed in any of the other epigraphs, so it's possible the single-letter abbreviation of Tanat is intended, possibly to indicate the significance of Talenel being abandoned.
