Listener forms are each defined by the traits that characterize them individually per listener, pairing, or group of listeners. Each form is taken via bonding to a specific spren type.
Forms cannot be commanded; every person is free to choose for themselves. Transformations could be cajoled and requested, but they could not be forced. Their gods had not allowed this freedom, so the listeners would have it, no matter what.[1]
Each new form changes a listener, down to their ways of thinking, even their temperament. Despite that, one remains oneself.[2]
Children need no form, and they are vibrant without one. But if they don’t adopt a form upon puberty in their seventh or eighth year, they are instead trapped in dullform, which is an inferior version of mateform.[3]
