Ishnah is one of the thieves that Veil had approached at All's Alley, the one whose eyes had lit up when she'd carved the symbol for the Ghostbloods into the table at which they were meeting.[2][3]

Later, she introduces herself to Veil as an excellent writer, one who can take dictations. She claims to have experience moving in the market underground in the city of Urithiru.[3]

She tells Veil that she wants to join her organization, to which Veil responds that they are not recruiting. Still, she pleads with her:

"The world is wrong now. Nothing makes sense. But you ... your group ... you know things. I don't want to be blind anymore."

–Ishnah to Veil[3]

Ishnah had visited some booksellers on Shallan's orders, and one had mentioned a title called Mythica, a newer volume that spoke of the Unmade. The bookseller had owned a copy, but his shop had been robbed during the riots. Veil hoped that someone in the underground knew where his goods had gone.[4]

Shallan enhanced her reputation as a spren by sending Ishnah and Vathah out into the city of Kholinar, wearing illusions to look like Veil, giving away food.[5]

Under Ishnah's guidance, Vathah then took to planning operations and proved himself to be quite proficient.[6]

After the Fall[]

According to Radiant, Ishnah survived the fall of Kholinar with admirable grit. She had stared one of the worst disasters in modern history in the face and had not only weathered it, but had helped Kaladin's squires rescue the crown prince.[1]

Appearance[]

Ishnah is a short, young woman who wears a brown havah.[2][3]

She has straight Alethi hair, dark brown eyes, bright red painted lips, and sharp black eyebrows enhanced with makeup. Veil recognizes her, and sees that she is shorter than she'd seemed while sitting down.[3]
