A Grandbow is a large steel bow with thick strings and such a high draw-weight that only a Shardbearer can use one,* to fire shafts as thick as three fingers.[1]

Grandbows are recent creations, devised by Alethi engineers through the use of fabrial science, and each requires a small infused gemstone to maintain the strength of its pull without warping the metal.[1]

Artifabrian, Navani, led the research to develop the bows.[1]

Some call them Shardbows, but Adolin doesn't like the term. Unlike Shardblades and Shardplate - which are something special (i.e., relics from another time when the Knights Radiant had walked Roshar), fabrial science hasn't yet approached recreating them.[1]

They are sleek and look dangerous.[1]

Present DayEdit

After he'd ingested a gem that held the Unmade, Yelig-nar, Amaram was killed by Rock, who used a Shardbow to do so,* impaling Amaram twice; once in the mouth and a second time in his 'gemheart'.[2]

* ... because Rock is ... just who he is.
