Edgedancer was originally written exclusively for the anthology of cosmere stories included in Brandon's collection, Arcanum Unbounded, released on November 22, 2016 by Dragonsteel Entertainment, LLC.[1] The 272-page novella focuses on Lift, who previously appeared in a Words of Radiance interlude. Brandon later published the novella as its own book;[2] This separate book also includes the interlude from Words of Radiance.[3] Brandon has recommended on many occasions to read Edgedancer before reading the third book in The Stormlight Archive (i.e., Oathbringer), as it contains an important plot point and adds a new dimension to the next story.[4]

Three years ago, Lift asked a goddess to stop her from growing older - a wish she believed was granted. Now, in Edgedancer, the barely teenage nascent Knight Radiant finds that time stands still for no one. Although the young Azish emperor granted her safe haven from an executioner she knows only as Darkness, court life is suffocating the free-spirited Lift, who can't help heading to Yeddaw when she hears the relentless Darkness is there hunting people like her with budding powers. The downtrodden in Yeddaw have no champion, and Lift knows she must seize this awesome responsibility.[5] |
