Danlan Morakotha is a scribe in Dalinar's army, often working the spanreeds.[1] She dated Adolin until their break-up during the weeks in-between The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance.

Appearance[]

Danlan has auburn hair with only a few strands of black, which she wears in a complex set of braids held together with four traditional steel hair-spikes high on her head. She is lithe and long-necked and has a breathy, husky voice.[1] Danlan is pretty, with pursed red lips.[2]

History[]

Danlan was present on an afternoon when Adolin met with Jakamav, and a group of other young lighteyes at an Outer Market wineshop. This group included Torol and Eshava, both from Highprince Aladar's warcamp. They discussed Dalinar's position given his condition during highstorms.[3]

She is later revealed to be a co-conspirator in the plotted assassination of King Elhokar. She is present at a meeting at which are in attendance Moash, Graves, Rill, and one unidentified man, to which Kaladin was invited by Moash. She asks of Kaladin whether he has any idea of the kinds of policies the king put into place before Dalinar got him under control, indicating that she spent the past three years in Kholinar helping the clerks there sort through the mess he'd made of the royal codes.[2]

"There was a time when he'd sign practically anything into law if he was cajoled the right way."

–Danlan to Kaladin[2]

With regard to the plot, she tells Kaladin that the Blackthorn must take the throne. Further, that it will happen eventually. She tells him that she and her co-conspirators want to help Dalinar along, for his own good ... to spare him the difficult decision.[2]

"It will be better for the king this way," Danlan said. "He is dying a slow death on that throne, like a drowning man far from land. Best to be done with it quickly."

–Danlan to Kaladin[2]
